Overseas Insurance - Geico

geico-overseasFrequent flyer miles to burn? Check.  Detailed (maybe too detailed) itinerary? Check.  Insurance coverage for the worldly belongings you'll be taking halfway across the world with you? Hrmm, good question! Whether you're going on vacation or moving overseas, GEICO can take the hassle out of getting your car, motorcycle, or personal property insured. International Insurance Underwriters, Inc. (IIU)–a GEICO subsidiary–can be your insurance agent abroad.

Overseas Insurance Coverage With A Personal Touch
GEICO's IIU will do more than just put together an overseas insurance policy that's right for you; we can help make sure that you have all the documents you need to ship it, register it, and cross international borders.  So you can spend more time focusing on your pronunciation instead of your paperwork.

All this, plus competitive overseas insurance rates from high quality insurers who are licensed in the country where you are living!

Payment Options
We make it easy to pay for your overseas policy. GEICO offers several different ways you can make your payments, including a monthly payment plan. We accept personal checks and money orders.

New Language, New Food, New Insurance!
You know that GEICO's the best when it comes to insurance here in the States, but did you know that we can also help keep you covered while you're abroad?

Most standard insurance policies written in the US will not cover your vehicles or belongings once you leave the country and unfortunately, “I couldn’t understand the sign!” won’t get you off the hook if you have an accident.

What Is Overseas Insurance?
Overseas insurance is insurance for your car, motorcycle, and personal property that’s available while you are living or traveling outside of the United States. GEICO has provided overseas insurance through its subsidiary, International Insurance Underwriters (IIU) — since 1954. IIU acts as your agent and arranges coverage from high quality overseas insurers who are licensed by the country you’ll be living in.

Coverage is available to government employees, members of the military, tourists, expatriates and third-country nationals.  Eligibility restrictions may apply in some countries.

What Does An Overseas Insurance Policy Cover?
Trying to figure out which coverages you want and need in a foreign language might seem about as straightforward as learning all of the dialects of Swahili.  That’s where we come in.

The policies we can help you set up may differ slightly by country, but in most locations liability, comprehensive and collision coverage are available. Cars used for business cannot be covered, and rental cars are only covered if your own car is being repaired. Also, your insurance coverage is for your car only — not someone else's.

What If My Coverage Needs Change?
Life’s surprises follow you everywhere, no matter how many connections and layovers it takes.  Should your coverage needs change while you're abroad, you can easily make changes to your existing policy, such as adding a car or new driver, by completing the online overseas service request form. Or, if you need a new kind of insurance, we’ll be happy to set a policy up, just contact an office near you or give us a call at 1-800-248-4998.

Why GEICO?
We can arrange insurance in more than 200 countries and have several offices overseas. You can stop in to pay a bill, make a policy change, or maybe even get a recommendation for someplace that serves your favorite local dish!

You can also get the same low rates and high-quality GEICO customer service overseas that you get in the U.S. Plus, the policy we'll help you set up will include:

  • Worldwide claims service
  • Claims settled in U.S. dollars
  • American style policies, written in English
  • Premiums that do not increase during the policy period, even if the exchange rates change
  • Convenient overseas offices
  • Flexible payment plans
  • Automatic renewal
  • Multiple options for getting a quote.
